Day 1 of marathon training! I thought it started next week but thankfully I'd made up my chart a while ago. Starts today, ends on my 41st birthday with the SLC marathon. And hopefully a BQ.

5 TM miles. 2% incline is the norm, so went to 3% for 1 mile in the middle.

I'm fixing (that's a Texan term) to jump into training too! I'm wondering how in the world you can train in the cold weather you get up there. It's hard enough down here where the winters are basically mild.

I reckoned you was fixing to start your Boston training soon (I'm not fluent in Texan, but I do understand it, haha). I'm also wondering how I'll be getting in long runs in the cold. So far I've done a lot of treadmill running. In years past I've run outside when it's been cold (0-20 degrees), but it seems I get sick when I'm out for more than 90 minutes. I'm getting some new running clothes for Christmas so I'm hoping that helps keep me warm and away from sickness.

Hey Russ. I've been pretty slack lately. it looks like you are making solid plans. Perhaps I'll join you in April, this time for the full distance. I missed my bq last fall...

As to running out in the cold, maybe if you did a third or half of your long run on the TM, then headed outside for the last part, you could keep yourself well under the 90 minute sickness induction threshold.

hello, day 1. good luck with the training. a marathon and a BQ is an excellent birthday present.

Kam, that's a great thought about running 1/2 & 1/2. I just may take you up on that advice. I hope you run SLC. It's $95 registration right now though which bites. I haven't registered yet; should've a few months ago to save moolah.

Hi allie. A BQ would be a fantastic present!

I'm not 100% sure if I'll be able to put as much time into my training as in the past as my life is a lot busier and will be for the foreseeable future. I will set my goals high, though, and do the best I can.

I like your high goals idea. :) Good luck in your training.
