Started running seriously in March 2010. Married 22 years to a hot momma and we have 3 boys, 1 sweet girl, 2 dogs, 3 2 0 1 cat, and 6     4 5 6 3 5 3 1 2 0 chickens (until Spring 2019 when we'll start over). As of September 2018 I'm looking for work... yay. I'm on the local School Board.

I can nearly walk without looking like I'm having leg problems, but not quite. My thighs are the worst as I booked it downhill during the steep parts. Sunday I could hardly sit down, Monday it got a little better, and today I was able to walk the 5 flights of stairs from my floor instead of taking the elevator.

Went to the Y today to get a workout in. Peddled on the recumbent (sp?) bike for 15 minutes while watching a combination of Top Shot (Gatling gun elimination - very cool!), SportsCenter, and Design on a Dime. I need a similar row of TVs at my house. That would be cool. Legs felt good and warmed up. Then did a couple laps around the indoor track, legs still feeling good, then did upper body. 3 sets of curls, triceps, and bench press. Did some abs work - 1:00 planks (been a long while); some laying down toe touches, and some bicycles. Not too many - need to work into doing my ab work as I did nothing over the last few months.

Excited to be post marathon, but ready for more. If I could run one in November I would, but there's none around here and no money to travel to one. My next race is a 5K on Thanksgiving morning. I'm shooting for a sub 21 minute race. That's probably a bit agressive as I don't venture into the 6's very often, but I'll give it a go. It's only 3.1 miles, right?

Might as well aim high, Russ. I wouldn't train at that pace more than once a week or over 10-15% of your mileage. It's a force = mass x acceleration kind of thing...the faster you go the more violent the impacts on your joints and stuff. Give yourself 2-3 weeks of very easy before you get too crazy about gutting out fast miles. I don't want you getting hurt. I'm glad your legs are getting back to normal.

Thanks Kam. I failed to mention that I won't be starting my 5K plan for a while. I found an 8 week one that in theory started yesterday, but I don't expect to be doing any running until at least next Monday, then I'll take it easy for another week or two. No need to get injured. I'll work other muscle groups I've been neglecting then get serious about 4-5 weeks before the race.

Montana! Wow! I lived there for about 7 years as a child, mostly in Great Falls but also a year in Glasgow. Cool! I think you can totally crank out sub-7s for your 5k btw!

Thanks April - I'll go for the sub 7. I think I might be able to pull it off. We've been in Montana 6 1/2 years and love it. I wish there were a few more races around, but I'll take the open spaces over the crowded cities with a bigger running scene.

Russ – well done on your SGM run and the PR. The race report was excellent – I felt the pain of those last 4 miles. Your description of the post marathon pain makes me feel guilty for whining all-day about my tired legs after a morning jog. I guess I’m a bit of a wimp. Don’t overdo the post marathon training and good luck with the forthcoming 5k and training.

Thanks Bam! I'm taking it nice and slowly in returning to post marathon training. Glad I could make you feel guilty. I think that's what this blog is for.... :)
