Rest day for me, and a realization day. I need the help of my fellow bloggers. I am trying to do too much with my life right now, and I need to simplify my marathon training. I'm following the Advanced 1 Hal Higdon plan  (days of the week modified to have Sunday a rest day) and I'm on week 11. I need to reduce my weekly mileage.

I'm leaning towards keeping my Wednesday workouts and my Saturday long runs the same distance and just reducing the other days. How much can I reduce the M, Tu, F mileage without seeing a massive loss in training?

I realize this will likely impact my marathon time, but that's okay. I'm investing too much of my energy (physical and mental) into the marathon and I need to diversify. :(

I would suggest the Run Less Run Faster program. I have used that to train and it seems to work well.

Here's an Amazon link.

would splitting your mileage up into doubles make things easier or more complicated for you? maybe you could start doing some lunch runs or commute runs? i don't know your schedule or situation, but if those options are manageable for you, i would start there. if that is just going to make things more stressful, i would say you would be okay reducing the m, t, f runs, just don't cut out entire days (other than your one rest day, which is fine). consistency is important. as for total mileage -- i wouldn't go much under 30/week for marathon training.

You've got 6ish weeks left, right? I guess you wouldn't be contemplating scaling it back if things hadn't already reached a critical mass of too busy.

I think you could drop down to 4 days a week, and not miss out on very much, as long as you make sure your 3 out of 4 days are quality. For your shorter runs, give yourself a mile warmup, then do the rest at or below marathon pace. Maybe you can make up for what you lose on volume with higher quality. Make sure each long run includes marathon or half-marathon pace miles toward the end of the workout. Give yourself one run per week to loaf, and really savor that easy run.

With the extra rest days, I don't think it will increase your injury risk. It'll be a challenge to get your game on for 3 out of 4 runs per week, but it'll pay off to log more MP miles.

Thanks so much Preston, allie, and Kam. These all give me great ideas to help me juggle my life. Many thanks.

I went back and looked at my weeks leading up to my first marathon I bq'd at and I was running 4 days a week and ~ 30miles/week. 1 of those was a double.

(1 recovery, 1 hills, 1 'easy', and 1 long run double day finishing with some MP miles).
