8 miles on tired legs. Haven't been getting enough sleep lately and not sure when I'll remedy that as this end-of-school-year thing has lots of meetings and events. I stopped to walk a bit between miles 2 & 3 then was pretty good the rest of the way. I think the lack of sleep more than anything has me looking forward to a) Thursdays (mid week rest day) and b) The Race. I think I'll take it a little easier for a while before my September marathon. Maybe 50 mile weeks are a bit much for me. Hopefully with time I'll get used to them.

50 mile weeks are tough. I think the time it takes to run that many miles is a big part of the challenge. It's an extra run, or two per week, and extra time on the runs.

What are you aiming for in Sep? the 3:35 at TOU? Your base is solid, Russ. After bighorn and 2-3 easy, recovery weeks, you should look at adding weekly tempo miles and/or other speed-type workouts.

In September I'm doing the "Montana" Marathon here in Billings. I'd love to travel and do the Ogden canyon one but not this year. My goal will be 3:35, and even faster if possible. And you're right - I need speed work after I get done training for Bighorn. I'll use a Hal plan. For SGM I did Intermediate 1. Should I use the same or go for Intermediate 2 or Advanced 1 or some other plan?

email me a copy of the plans. I think you are ready, Russ. You've got the base now to add some speed. You've taken a gradual approach, dealt with some injuries here and there, but now you are ready to take it up a notch. I'm excited for you. 3:30 is pretty much 8mm pace. I know that's getting to be a comfortable pace for you. I'm discovering I need to train for 5-10 minutes under the goal time I want to achieve. You may consider that as well.
