5 miles at 11 am in 75 degree temps. Plenty hot, and a good part of my heat strategy. My legs felt pretty tight after Saturday's 20 but they loosened up after a mile, then I found some speed. I wasn't planning on running marathon pace but I did and faster than MP the last 2. It felt good. I think I need more faster paces like this more frequently.

AP: 7:56. Splits 8:36, 8:01, 8:00, 7:44, 7:18.

If the pace feels good, go for it. It's easy to do the same run over and over, and not get much improvement benefit, just maintaining. But don't go crazy and get yourself injured, either.

I was thinking about injury as I sprinted down a hill just to see how fast I could go. The garmin says 4:14 pace but not sure that's true. That was stoopid though as I could picture hamstrings and achilles popping as I booked it for 30 meters. I am noticing I need to do more fast stuff, and it helps to change up where I run. When I only run from my house I'm very limited, but in town there's lots of options.

How's your fast marathon training going? Are you shooting for a sub 3 starting at 8500 feet?
