4 down & up miles this morning. I just went to the eye doctor & had my eyes dilated so I can't read what I'm typing. If there are typos or something doesn't make sense, I ll fix it when I can see.

So the other day I was thinking about my hill running, and my desire to do well with the 50K, and it dawned on me that the road I live on is a steep hill, but I never run it. Decided to run it today and it will become used more often. It's only a mile & a half to the bottom of the road, so I ran another 1/2 mile to make it a solid 4 on the turn around. Great paces down the hill, and nice and steady back up. It's at least 400 feet of climb in 1.5 miles with 3 solid stretches of up. I will make this part of my routine. Would be nice to end some long runs with this brutal uphill at the end.

Careful with the hill Russ, especially racing down it: you could end up injured. Think about the extra force going through your body when you're running downhill.

I'd say do a hil run once or twice a week and work more on the uphill rather than the down. Downhill running is ok in small doses, if you know what you're doing and you have a lot of running under your belt. Finding a hill that's 1.5-4 miles long and running up it at a good effort is great training - once a week. Just my two cents...:)

Thanks Bam, great two cents. My downhill paces weren't break neck, more like high 7s to low 8s. As I get a bit closer to the race I do want to do proper killer downhills a few times to better prepare my quads for dropping 3000 feet in 3 miles. But until then I'll keep it sane.
