A really good hard 12 miler today. Legs were a bit tired to start but not bad. I powered through today's run, imagining being tired for the race. At mile 3 I hit my tough hill, about 350 feet rise in .8 miles. It looks way tougher in person than it sounds on paper. I held about a 9:30 pace up that part, and when I'm tired I drift to an 11 or 12 minute pace, or walk up that stretch. It keeps rising another 1/2 mile and I kept it steady. A bit of down, then more up and a drop to mile 6, then turn around and back up the hill, then mostly down until mile 9 when it's a tough up for 1/2 mile. Again, kept a steady pace, then it leveled out and mostly downhill to home. Very proud of today's run. 2 weeks to go!

Paces: 9:36, 8:43, 8:58, 9:03, 8:48, 8:29, 8:27, 7:59, 7:45, 8:08, 7:54, 7:59. AP: 8:29

That is a rough hill, Russ. It sounds awful on paper. I will say this; running more challenging terrain than what you are going to encounter on your actual marathon course will hold you in good stead. You'll pass a lot of people on the hills. Well, maybe not, since not too many people are registered, and you won't be crowded. But you will hold pace better, while others will slow WAYYYY down. Go real easy on that foot. Healing that up as much as possible may pay better dividends than getting in a few more miles in the next couple weeks.
