3.5 treadmill miles. Walked a bit at 4.0, ran at 5.5 for a mile, then 6.0 for a mile or more, and 6.5 for the last 1/2 mile at least. At 6.5 felt a bit of a tug on the achilles but no pain.

The woman running on a treadmill behind me was the only Montanan to qualify for the Olympic Trials marathon. She's amazing. I've still never talked to her but I will someday. Seems like a super nice person but very shy.

That woman (Sarah Graves) finished a couple spots ahead of Andrea at Philly last year. She's run a lot of very good marathons. Last year she did 2:46, 2:44, 2:50 in a 2 month span.

Right on! I didn't put Sarah's name as I figured nobody would know her, but I noticed her in one of Andrea's pictures from the Philadelphia marathon and then saw she missed the QT by a bit. I was shocked when I saw a story in our local paper 2 weeks later that she qualified at CIM. She's a beast! She's at every event around town and wins them all and she seems like the nicest person.

Very cool.

What you wrote there is exactly why I feel the OT standards need to be high, but not so high that people like Sarah don't think its out of their reach. They bring a lot of positive attention to the sport, and generally are strong supporters of the local running scene. I'm worried w/ the women's time dropping to 2:43, some women might not chase it this time around.

Ah - I didn't realize the Women's standards dropped to 2:43. That's a bummer as it's not like the Houston trials had a barrage of runners, but those with slower times made the dream of a lifetime. And we all know women on this blog who came so close to that 2:47, so it was a very tough time in and of itself. Once you retire from competition, you'll need to join the board and help them with their rule making abilities.

I think athletes will rise up. Andrea was a bit discouraged at first, but I think she is starting to believe she can do it.

Unfortunately the rules get made behind the scenes for the most part, w/ little input from athletes....

Thanks for the link! I'd read Camille's blog after allie ran the Woodlands marathon but didn't bookmark it so hadn't been back. Camille is now bookmarked. Very interesting how it all works, and not too transparent. Hope some of the changes that are recommended in her blog happen. I also read her Spiderwoman Guinness record. Hilarious! And a bit gross. I don't think I'll ever be going #2 in full stride... :)
