4 TM miles at the Y this morning. Same as yesterday, 1 mile 10:00, then 8:53, then 8:30, and last 7:53. 25 pushups, ab work, 10 pullups. Legs a bit sore from yesterday. Love it.

It's not much, but at least I got double digits again for a week (barely). Today was a very busy day with cleaning the church in the morning and Stake Conference from 3:30-10 (including travel time) but I determined that when I got home I would run. I got on a little after 10 and ran for 3 miles. Amazingly, when I got off the TM it was only 9:30. I love time travel.

My new normal of 4 TM miles at the Y this morning. I tend to always go progressive on the TM or I'll go nuts, so for the last .5 mile I bumped it up to a 6:22 pace just to see if I could, and that went fairly well so with .25 to go I bumped it up to Ryan Hall's Boston pace (12.7/4:46) just to see how long I could hang like that. Have you seen the videos from NYC marathon of people doing that on TMs in the street? Pretty funny. I could've gone a bit longer, but the legs were feeling weak so I made it .12 miles before I dropped it to a 6.5 to finish. That is crazy fast. Kudos to you speed demons out there.

My feet were feeling great with doing no running the last while, but I noticed this morning that when I first got out of bed both my R and L foot were a bit sore. Sweet. Double PF? That would be awesome. Guess I need to ice. Good news is that my left achilles hasn't been sore (touch wood).

4 TM miles. I'm in the 4 mile rut. It's better than 3, and much better than 0, but I need more than that. If I run 5 times a week, that's only 20 miles. I need to start upping my miles. I hope to get out this Saturday and do 8 miles or so, and soon get back to 10 miles and beyond. It's been way too long. I need a race to train for.

Good progressive run this morning. 1/2 mile at 10:00, 1.5 at 8:57, 1 at 8:27, and 1 at 7:52. Legs are still feeling sore but it's a gentle soreness, a good reminder that I'm losing it.

Was going to run at Noon today, but the allure of Boot Camp spoke to me and I answered. It was fun to be back, as it's been quite a while. Good sweat fest.

No need to take my son tomorrow morning early, so I'll get in a 6 miler from home, something I haven't done in many moons. Or stars.

Got up a little later this morning than planned, but still decided to go for 6 miles and glad I did. Temps were a bit chilly (33F), but no wind, so it was good. No watch, so no idea of pace, but it was pretty decent. Happy to be back on my regular road. The guy in the old tan Dodge Ram pickup gave me a honk as he passed by as it's been a few months since he's seen me on the road. It was kind of like a "Norm!" from Cheers moment. Aw shucks.

4 progressive TM miles at the Y this morning. A bit of a late start, but it's a Friday so I decided to go 4 miles instead of 3. Made it to work just after 8:30 so no harm, no foul. Quads are sore from Wednesday's Boot Camp, and I like it. Legs and achilles felt good entire run, no worries. With 1 to go I bumped the TM to 7:13 pace, then with .5 I moved to a 6:22 pace, and the last .25 I finished at a 5:57. I wish I could get to where that pace was sustainable for a 5K, let alone a marathon, but I'm not sure that's in my deck of cards (the Joker I am at one with). Sure feels good though.

Double digits. That's right. Read it and weep. 10 miles going the opposite way on my 10 mile loop. I've still got it. Going up the hills was pretty solid. Beautiful weather. When I left at 11 am it was 42 and sunny so I ran in shorts, short sleeve tech shirt, and thin cotton gloves. North breeze but not bad. This run felt really good and makes me happy.

Got to the Y at Noon to run outside (50F) and got a text from my 9th grader asking to come pick him up and take him home. That's a 50 minute round trip, so there went my run. Bummer. Tomorrow morning, likely on the TM.

4 progressive TM miles this morning at the Y. Last mile I did .5 at 7:12, .25 at 6:26, and .25 at 5:56. Not sure I can maintain a 6:30 pace for a 5K in a couple weeks, but I'm going to try.

5 miles this morning on my favorite route from home. 33F and windy, so a bit chilly going up and into the wind, but not so much on the way back. Good solid run.

10 miles up my worse-than-Veyo hill. Felt pretty good the entire way. Started after 8 am, so wasn't in the coldest part of morning and that was nice. Finished strong and happy about being back in the double digit world.

4 brisk miles this morning. Temp was 30 at home, but 23 in town. I was a bit chilly, so after the first mile I sped up and finished with 1/2 mile below 6:30 pace. I think I can maintain that for 3.1. Will give it my best anyhow.

4 miles on the same flat route as yesterday. Much warmer, 45 degrees, but with a steady side wind it was still a bit chilly on the out. Weather's going to turn cold for a few days, with lows 12, 11, and 9, so it was nice to get outside for a morning run before it hits.

Boot Camp Wednesday. It was a good one. I think I'll a) be sore and b) sleep well tonight.

It's snowing and 13 degrees at 1:40 PM. Awesome.

4 TM miles. It was only supposed to get to 9 degrees last night, so I woke up with the intent to bundle up and go for a run. At 6 am it was -1 outside, so I scrapped that idea. Those 10 degrees tend to make a pretty big difference. Besides, it's only November 21st - not time yet for a sub-zero run. So, I ran on the home TM and it wasn't too bad. Listened to a couple of talks from general conference then watched SportsCenter. A nice morning. The home TM is definitely not the same as the nice ones at the Y, but it does the trick.

4 is the new 5. Or 6. Another 4 miles on the TM this morning. I really only have time for 3 miles most mornings, but I can't do just 3 so I go 4, but then I get to work a little after 8:30. Thankfully my boss isn't about what time you get in, it's putting in your 8 hours a day. That's nice.

Decent run today. Didn't feel fantastic, but it's the end of another long week. Last .25 at 6:22 pace.

4 TM miles this morning at the Y. Typical start up: (2% incline) .5 at 10:00, 1.5 at 8:57, 1 at 8:18, then I finished with a 5K warmup and did 1 at 6:30. That was pretty tough. Legs should recover fully by Thursday morning at 9. Should be perfect weather.

5 TM miles at the Y. My oldest son, freshman in High School, had basketball tryouts at 6 this morning so I got to the Y an hour or more earlier than normal. I was going to do 6 but my legs were feeling tired and because of Thursday's 5K I cut it short. My son starts driving December 10th so that should free up my mornings for longer runs. Looking forward to it.

Current forecast has Thursday's high at 39 degrees with no precipitation. That means it will be chilly at 9 am, probably 25 degrees, but I can handle that. It was looking to be a high of 45 which would mean temps in the 30s which would be a little better. I'd love to wear shorts, singlet, and arm warmers with no hat but it's looking like tights, long-sleeve tech shirt, hat, and gloves. I just don't want to overheat as I plan to redline my HR.

Run Turkey Run 5K this morning. About 24 degrees at the start, but only a slight breeze. Warmed up 2 miles on the course, and I'm so glad I did. I ran this last year but I forgot how far we went before turning around. This course starts in downtown, goes through streets with the old houses in town, then turns and comes back. While warming up I wore two pairs pants, 3 shirts and a jacket. After getting warm I ditched the pants and put on shorts, and went with a short sleeve tech shirt and a long sleeve half zip tech shirt, thin cotton gloves, and a thin tech warm hat. Perfect.

The start is downtown and from last year I learned that GPS signal goes out from the "tall" buildings (4-5 stories) so I tried to just pick a good pace. That is tough to do while surrounded by kids and other slower runners. After a few blocks we turn and ditch downtown and head into the neighborhood. I was able to maintain a better pace, but it was too slow. At the first mile I picked it up a bit but was still struggling to keep it lower. All the way I was picking people off left & right. That is sooooo fun! Love it. The third mile I knew I had a lot of gas in the tank so I put the pedal down as much as I could. We got back into downtown and two right turns were coming up. Everyone turned on a street that seemed early, but whatever. I upped my speed at the turn, then on the last turn I upped it again. I had a good push to the end and was shocked when I saw 19:0x on the clock. WOW! I really went way faster than I thought. Amazing. Then I heard a few people say "too bad the course was short." What the??? Checked the watch, and 2.98 on the watch. We all turned one street too early. I talked to the winner and he said the cyclist leading him caused the mix up. He turned early, the leader followed, then everybody followed after which makes sense. I was moving that last 1/2 mile so I think I would've had a good time. Based on a 3 mile race and a time of 19:06, my pace is 6:22 which equals a 19:48 5K. Major bummer that I couldn't get an official 5K time. There are so few flat 5Ks in Billings that I don't get this chance very often.

Had a great time, then an hour after the 5K started I did the 1 mile race (the official RRCA Montana championship mile race...but nobody really showed up). The clock had me at 5:46 and 6th place overall, 1st place in age division. Nobody ran the 1 mile, obviously, but I'll take it. In the 5K I finished 25th out of 2019 finishers, and the 1 mile 6th out of 418. Not too shabby for an old guy, but clearly the high school cross country kids sat this one out.

After reflecting for a few days, and thinking how I felt after my 5:46 mile, I know I can do so much more with the 5K. At the end I didn't feel close to puking my guts out or feeling like I would fall over, and from everything I've seen, that's what a proper 5K is supposed to feel like. Shoot, I didn't even feel like that after the mile. I need to learn how to race. There are only a handful of 5Ks in Billings all year, so it's tough to learn how, but I'm hopeful.

Happy Thanksgiving blog buddies!

Splits: 6:37, 6:32, 6:11.

4 TM miles at the Y this morning. Legs are surprisingly sore from yesterday's effort. I guess some lactic acid build up from going at speeds I don't normally see, plus a lack of a cool down from either the 5K or the 1 mile. Lessons learned.

Tough to get the legs going this morning. Ran 1 mile at 10:00 pace, then walked for 5+ minutes, then a couple ladies took the 2 treadmills next to me, to walk (use the track if you're just going to walk!) and talk. How incredibly annoying. It got my juices flowing so I upped the tempo so the mill would drown them out. That plus the increased effort caused me to focus on the TV and running and I successfully avoided their lame conversations (Who needs to hear about some 3rd party woman's hysterectomy at the gym? Nobody, that's who.).

After running I did curls, triceps, and bench, 3X10. Felt good.
