After such an embarrassing September, I'm starting off October with a run. Gorgeous weather outside, 59F with no wind, no clouds and lots of sun. Felt great. No watch, no headphones. I just ran. But in way better weather than IJR just runs.

Noon Boot Camp. Sweaty shins = awesome. This was a double sweaty shin day (say that 5 times fast in front of an impressionable child), and a 4-wringer headband day as well. Awesome.

Going for a double workout day today, and maybe, just maybe, a double digit miles week. Ah.Maze.Ing.

Ran 4 TM progressive miles at the Y starting at 9:13 pace then faster each mile to a 6:58 for the last quarter.

Noon: Part 2 of my double workout was Boot Camp. It was a good 'un and I'm a gonna be sore. She had us do 2 exercises at each station, and we did 55 of each in an inverted triangle. 10 pushups, then run to half court and back; 9 pushups, halfcourt & back; etc. I kind of liked it. I think I'll sleep well tonight. I should be able to get a nice 6 miler in tomorrow. That would be a big win for me, and probably the right distance.

6 TM miles at the Y. A couple hours later and legs are feeling it. I will be hitting some regular miles from here out. Ugh. Wish I was at SGM this morning.

I'm streaking! Look out boys & girls, cover your eyes! I ran 4 TM miles this morning. Ooh la la. 2% incline, progressive run up to a 7:47 mile. Legs pretty tired still from Friday's Boot Camp and from running the last few days. Saturday evening my left calf was uber sore, like my right calf normally gets from a shin-splint type thing. It was a deep muscle ache. Love that feeling (not). Nothing that 5 vitamin I tablets didn't take care of.

Noon: Boot Camp. I wasn't going to do it, but I just couldn't resist. Pretty good session. Lots of running.

I was tired yesterday after my double workouts on Monday so took a break Tuesday. This morning I intended to run 4 miles at the Y but my son reminded me that I needed to wait for him and take him to school, which meant I couldn't run in town. I quickly changed plans and ran while I waited. It meant less time, but I wanted the same distance, so I increased speed. That was fun. No watch or headphones, i just ran. No idea of time but I would guess that it was in the 10K-1/2 pace. I've lost a lot of fitness in my legs but thankfully it's not all gone. Time to bring some of it back.

It was a little chilly this morning. 39F with no breeze. Long sleeve tech shirt with cotton gloves and a thin hat, shorts, and calf compression sleeves. Felt a little chilly at the beginning, but great at the end. Hands were cold but I didn't know it until I took my gloves off. Love this weather.

I think I'm back to the running gig. My desire this week is to run. It hasn't been for a while, but now it's mainly on running. That's a good thing. I knew my mojo would return.

Chilly, 38F with a mild wind. Wore same thing as yesterday, long sleeve tech shirt, shorts, thin hat, and thin cotton gloves. Definitely could've used some thicker gloves this morning. I ran from the Y, and when I got back and hit the hot shower the backs of my hands were tingly. Not horribly cold, but not comfortable. A long run would've meant no retying the shoelaces if they came untied. Thankfully that never happens.

A good run. I started out at a 9 mm pace, and kept that going uphill. Once I hit the flats my pace dropped naturally to a 7:28 pace and I held that off and on. I wanted to be higher than that, but was interested to see what felt comfortable. On the way back I kept it between 7:30-7:40 or so, but I wasn't intending this to be a tempo run so I just ran. It felt really good.

I'm still a runner! I was having some serious doubts. I didn't think I'd get in a run today, but fortune smiled on me and I took it. I left at 7:15 pm, in the dark, decked out with my reflective gear and lights, and gloves and a hat. Started with the intent to do 6 and I wasn't feeling great but decided in the first mile to do 8. It's been a while. Nothing special about tonight's run, but I completed it and a couple hours later I still feel good. My stomach was full from a massive lunch, and I'm glad I made it home before I needed to use the toilet. It was a close call! TMI, I know, but my stomach affected my last miles.

4 TM miles at the Y. I went way too long without running solid distances, and now I need to build back up. After 8 on Saturday night, these 4 were way harder than they should've been. Finished with .25 at 6:30 pace, so at least there was that.

My left achilles is more sore as I've been running more. Last night I started doing the stair dips that Jake prescribed in early spring. I should've been doing them ever since it started hurting. I'm going to start doing more calf stretches after my workouts as I think that tight calves are the main factor with both my achilles and plantar fasciitis. I gave up stretching a while ago and I guess my experiment worked for a couple years, but now I'm a bit older and the niggles are abounding.

Noon: Boot Camp. I wasn't going to do it, but I love the feeling of sore muscles that I get every time I go. My legs weren't feeling it before going, so thankfully there wasn't much leg work today. Lots of arms and shoulders with some cardio as well. Great session. Our leader is a former Arena League QB for our local team for 5-6 years, who now works at our Y. He was a lot of fun to watch as QB, and by the exercises he put us through I understand where he got his edge.

3 TM miles. Feeling a cold coming on, so taming the effort for a couple days to let this pass.

Feeling like mile 22 of the marathon. I hate being sick. Went to work for a couple hours, but now at home working so I don't get people sick and so I can rest when needed. Shouldn't have run yesterday, but hindsight is like 20/40 (the 20/20 saying is so overblown).

After a 15 day break due to sickness and hunting, I ran this morning. It was nice. 4 TM miles at the Y while watching a combination of Sportscenter, Pawn Stars, and Headline News on the 3 TVs up front. A pretty good combo.

Set the incline to 2%, did first mile at 10:00 pace to warm up slowly, then 8:57 for a mile, next mile at 8:30 pace, and final mile at 7:57. Felt good, no aches and pains. I'm hoping to keep the aches and pains away.

Stretched the calves and hamstrings afterwards, did 25 pushups and some ab work.

Had a great time elk hunting, up in the mountains from 7000-10000+ feet of elevation. Lots of driving on rough roads, lots of looking through binoculars. No success for me or my son, but we had some opportunities and had an awesome time.
