I feel totally screwed for my race. I've missed the last two long runs in a row, and this week and next week were supposed to be my last big mileage weeks and this week will be low miles and I can't just turn around and run 60 miles next week on next to nothing mileage. This really sucks.

The timing isn't good, for sure, but you still have time for a decent long run, and hopefully any effects of the illness will be long gone.

Thanks Joe. I tend to be a little Chicken Little when things aren't going my way, but there's some truth to my worries. I was going on a pretty thin margin to be ready for a 50 mile race. The training schedule had me going long on back-to-back weeks, then a step back. I didn't plan to hit the actual mileage twice in a row (and I haven't) which is a bit dicey. Then to miss two long runs in a row entirely and not go full distance the third week (this coming Saturday there's no way I can do 28) leaves that thin margin in jeopardy. All isn't lost, but it sure was poor timing on my part. If it was a BQ I was searching for I'd be really upset. But it is a long long race and hopefully I'll be up for it. We'll see. If it's not my day I'll drop at mile 34 at an aid station I'm very familiar with but hopefully I'll feel well enough at that point to make it to the finish.

My last couple marathons have both been preceded by dips in training for various reasons, and they weren't great of course. So I'd probably be freaking out a little too but it seems like those long races are a bit of a wildcard, like you never know what you can or can't do based on training. Not that I would know personally, just gleaned from reading other blogs. Hopefully you can mush through it!

Great perspective, thank you. You're right, from reading others blogs the training and race day don't correlate well. Being undertrained doesn't help, but it's more about being smart on race day and taking in nutrition. Thanks! That helps soothe my worried brain.
